La Virgen de la Macarena

La Virgen de la Macarenca is the most popular pasodoble used in bullfights. It was popularized as a solo work by trumpeter Rafael Mendez. This edition uses a flexible ensemble instrumentation for the accompaniment.

This versatile solo works great as a showpiece for either euphonium or trombone with a variety of accompaniments. The accompanying ensemble can be trombone sextet, tuba/euphonium ensemble, or simply a mix of low brass instruments. The solo part will prove challenging for high school to college age students, but the ensemble accompaniment should not be too difficult.
